empathy
Hi everyone. I know it’s been a while but I’m back. I took a bit of a hiatus to focus on school, but I’m done with the term and I think it’s time I pay a little more attention to you all lol. This post isn’t necessarily about any specific issue, or really informative in any regard. I wanna talk about why change is difficult, especially environmental change. Empathy in relation to oceanic issues is pivotal. Change typically comes when people give a shit. In order to aide the impacts of climate change and different issues that involve our oceans, we have to bridge the gap between the people who are hands on, working in labs, and doing the research with the general population. The form of communication between the two clearly hasn’t been working. Something that is so often misunderstood is the non complexity of humans. We really aren’t all that intricate. I mean, someone posted a video of a turtle with a straw up it’s nose and suddenly plastic straws are banned almost nationwide. It shouldn’t be just videos of animals in pain that are the catalyst for change. The Earth and the ocean do an extremely good job at showing us that things aren’t okay. The coast of Florida being over 100 degrees, increased hurricanes and wildfires, ice melting at the poles. These are all clear signs that the Earth is angry and yet still there’s no concrete change. If you’re a person with a heart, I’m sure you care about the things that are happening. Inevitably, it’s the people with a whole lot of money, owners of large corporations, and to be blunt, the people who run this country who could give less of a shit. It’s all about money. Its about what’s cheap and what’s cost effective. But, those things are hurting our planet. I know this post wasn’t long and really didn’t contain anything of too much substance, but I just wanted to share some thoughts to fill my absence. The last thing I want to touch on is that I hope you all are doing what you can to help the fight against the genocide in Gaza. If you haven’t yet, please visit ceasefiretoday.com to find resources and to do your part. I’ll talk to you all soon.
